Prizes for At This Moment were made possible by a generous gift from Lee Ferrara, a longtime LexArt member. The Lee Ferrara Best in Show, Second Place, and Third Place prizes were selected by the juror, Deborah Krieger, Outreach and Research Manager, Louis Stern Fine Arts. The Best of LexArt prize was selected by Matthew Siegel, Executive Director of LexArt, from the juried in pieces by members of the LexArt Painting Studio Group.
Third Place

I create collage elements by implementing painting, printmaking and surface-altering methods on paper. These techniques result in textural effects and moods that range from aged and distressed to vibrant and energetic. Through layering the imagery and combining the collage components, I explore how color, form, and movement interact compositionally.
Deliberate Wanderings, #17

I’m interested in how landscapes hold traces of everything that’s passed through them, the way memory does. I painted a landscape resembling ash and bone, layered with memory and torn textures. Asemic writing, a lone sentinel, and a red-eyed sun sit off in the distance.

Second Place

When visiting a botanical garden in Cuba, I photographed this fabulous monstera plant knowing that I would render it in dye on silk. I enjoyed creating the various textures by letting water and alcohol play with the dye.
Cuba III

With the figure in water, there is much to explore; the color of light, reflection, and distortion as well as a gesture that relates to a sense of place and moment. My pool paintings also enable me to explore a subject that gives me peace in these turbulent times.
